Lives from A Chainsaw Perfumed
Much has been speculated about possible relationships between the conservative waves emerging in Brazil today and the authoritarian regimes of the past. In this series of lives, A CHAINSAW PERFUMED invites artists and intellectuals to reflect on a possible FRATRIA, analyzing recent political and social phenomena in the light of history. In these heterogeneous meetings, Psychoanalysis, Philosophy, Militancy and Theater talk to exhume the passions that move the gears of our time.

CÃO DO SENHOR
It was during the most severe periods of the Pandemic that A Motoserra Perfumada developed the research that resulted in the play "Cão do Senhor" (The Lord's Dog), by Biagio Pecorelli. Set in the mid-1980s, the text tells the story of Inri, a friar of the Dominican Order who returns to the house where he grew up, in the distant and fictional Cruz das Almas. Brazil is experiencing its democratic opening, but Inri finds himself trapped in a childhood memory: that of his father hiding corpses in the countryside. The protagonist cannot distinguish what he remembers from what he invents; what is political memory from what is childhood fear.
In the end, it is the theme of AMNESTY that is discussed in “Cão do Senhor”. The play tells us that only memory, woven collectively; historical facts, insistently “remembered”; and with the agents of violence duly held accountable, can a nation shed light on its future.
In 2021, the play was published in physical book format (Ed. Efêmera), along with three other plays by A Motosserra, all of which were written by the authors. It will have a version for Teletheater (photos) that is in the post-production phase and as a theatrical show it is still unreleased.
